Recording your Conference Call
Recording a conference call is not a very hard process. There are many soundstations manufactured by Polycom now that have recording processes built into the unit. We do have some polycom soundstations on the site too, but be sure to read each one carefully to see if recording is included in the unit.
What are other ways to record a conference call?If there is a speakerphone function within your conferencing phone, then it's easy to hit the speakerphone button and have a microphone near the unit, recording the conversation. You can use a handheld recorder placed near the speakerphone. This would be one of the most inexpensive methods. Other methods include having a microphone near the speakerphone which is plugged into a computer. The computer can record the conversation then using Windows Sound Recorder. For those who want the best quality audio recording, use a computer program that is built for audio recording. Mp3 recorders work but may not provide the best output. Look for a program built for audio recording (there are many and they're not cheap). You want a program that not only records input but is also adept at outputting files. For this you will want a program that you can manually set the output quality, thus affecting the output size of the file.
When using a microphone plugged into a computer you may get noise and other background noises. You may need another piece of hardware that filters these sounds out (or try to get your meeting participants to keep quiet and listen intently).
What is the best method for conference call recording? Which method will have the best audio quality when finished?
If you want the best, buy a phone that automatically records the conference call. Or, use a service with recording. This way you just hit some buttons to tell the service to start recording the call.
Computer solutions and etc. using a microphone, or even a personal recorder, are subject to background noise. Also, depending upon where people are sitting in the room, one person's voice may be louder then another. And some voices may be soft. To avoid these issues use a phone that has conference recording built in, or a service that does it.
